Stage 2:
Kopparberg to Falun (57 miles)

Congratulations to all those who made it to the start on time, you've effectively earned yourself a slight head start over the stragglers who got lost on the way!

The first leg of the race proper will see you leaving Kopparberg and heading north to the town of Falun just under 60 miles away, as the wizard flies. Being on brooms up high means that there are no obstacles of course, so now it's down to sheer speed and stamina to decide who will be the first to reach the first checkpoint in Falun. Muggles have been mining copper in Falun since the mid-1200s and the town is home to the oldest enterprise in the world, as the organisation for the extraction of copper and gold is proven to have been active since 1347. There are about 36,500 muggle inhabitants in the city, and the famous Great Copper Mountain (Stora Kopparberg) has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Falun is home to the annual Swedish Ski Games, and also a major muggle snowboarding competition, but more importantly, it's the first checkpoint on this world famous Broom Race.

Earn time bonuses for the race by completing the challenges below.

Time Challenge: In the grid below, each number represents a letter, and the lines across spell out various Harry Potter related things. Each correct line you decode will earn you a 15 second time bonus. The first letter of each line goes into the blue box at the bottom, for an additional 30 second time bonus, rearrange these letters to spell a famous Harry Potter person or place.

Bonus Time Challenge: Each of the lines below has been shortened down to initials. Your job is to figure out what each one is actually saying - for example: "24 H in a D" might be "24 Hours in a Day". Gain 8 seconds for each correct set of initials you can correctly figure out (and yes, they are all Harry Potter related, of course).
